Galentine’s Day Is…

A thing. Things sure have changed and I like it. A few years ago, Valentines Day was a day to be celebrated by couples (lovers for the most part), but this year I was introduced to Galentine’s Day, a holiday that Amy Poehler’s Parks and Rec character Leslie Knope created that occurs every year on Feb. 13, the day before Valentine’s Day. As Leslie herself explains on the show: “Oh, it’s only the best day of the year.Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.” I loved that. And I think this sudden new wave of feminism; the women’s march and women’s issues in politics, brought a timeliness to Galentine’s Day and to celebrating gal pals and girl power. I swear it was a bigger deal than actual Valentine’s day to the dismay of my poor husband. Say good bye to traditional notions of V-Day, and welcome the …

From Upcycling Thrifted Tee’s Into Newborn Hats, To Widely Adored Baby and Kid Brand – Meet Amy Richardson-Golia, Creator Of June & January

For those of us who understand what the term ‘nesting’ means, I’m about to share the story of one woman who took it to the next level. When you were pregnant, do you remember what you did? You may have been working up until your due date like a lot of women I know, you might have been making space in your home (or moving into a new home!), getting all the baby supplies you’ll be needing, or just trying to find a comfortable position to sleep in every night. I was certainly getting a little restless and anxious about it but I had no ambition other than to just get through it. This eventual founder of a well-known baby and kids brand, did something unique with her pregnancy time – she started sewing new-born hats out of hip thrifted T-shirts for her not-yet-born son and friends. In the winter 2010 during her first pregnancy, designer Amy Richardson-Golia started a side project from her kitchen table in a one-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn, which quickly grew into the now widely …

Bitte Summer 2016 Collection Launch Party

Summer is almost here. Can you believe it? Which means planning family vacations is just around the corner. Or if you’re like me, you’re just trying to get through the week and leave the planning to the husband! Last week I attended my first press event at Chantal Guillion on Howard St. hosted by mom and entrepreneur Maia, co-founder of Bitte. She had a full sample of the summer collection set up beautifully inside. There was a photo-booth, a macaron decorating activity, cute gift bags, and plenty of macarons and champaign – definitely enough to make us bloggers and moms very happy! It was a great chance to meet new people, dream up reasons why I should shop at Bitte and practice taking photos. I finally had a chance to upload some photos from the event: The summer collection is now available on www.bitteshop.com. I’m starting to shop at Bitte for birthday gifts and baby showers too now. The site is really easy to navigate and convenient. The only minor thing is the wait for shipping. …

She created her own online store selling sustainable children’s apparel and toys. AND she’s a new mom. Meet Maia.

Women create businesses. Women create jobs. Women have a huge impact on the economy. Women become mothers. These are some facts that have been circulating through my brain these days. Why? Because it’s time to give women some credit where its due! And today’s featured woman is no exception. She’s a full time mama and entrepreneur: Meet Maia McDonald Smith, Co-Founder of Bitte. An online store which curates modern, classic and sustainable children apparel and toys, sourced from US/Europe. I was able to get an in person interview with Maia and her Co-Founder who happens to be her own mom – Sara McDonald.  We checked in at San Francisco’s lovely Chantel Guillon, where my eye and taste buds first gravitated towards the colorful display of macarons that lay before me.
