My Top 10 Reason’s To Love The Fairmont Orchid

Aloha! Here’s our second post of our Hawaii vacation series. This post is about our hotel accommodations at the Fairmont Orchid Resort.  We really couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay while we were in Hawaii for obvious reasons. So lets get into it! Plus at the end I’ll be sharing how you can score yourself the best deal to stay at the Fairmont Orchid! 1. The Room View The room we stayed at during our stay at the Fairmont Orchid was ‘exquisite’. We stayed in a suite which had a ‘sweeping’ view of the golf course from your lanai and a peak of the Pacific Ocean on our left. The suite had a separate parlor area divided from the main bed room with french doors, a sofa that can turn into a sleeper couch and a dresser with a fridge (no freezer). The bedroom had a powder room/office, which leads to the bathroom, garnished with marble counters and completely marble shower. Gorgeous! Now that as I’m writing this, I should have just done a …

Restaurant: Spice Queen

Review of Spice Queen – San Francisco 3809 Geary Blvd, San Francisco, CA 94118 Price: $ Reviewed by The Husband. Disclaimer: The views and opinions expressed in this post are solely his. He also takes all photo credit.   Today I am going to write about the $7.95 lunch special at Spice Queen. The advertising at the restaurant is a little deceiving because it appeared that we’d be getting the hot pot for $7.95, but it’s actually a lunch special. Nonetheless, my coworker and I were in the mood for some spicy food so we ventured here. The hot pot appeared to be similar to what they serve at Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot with a choice of broths and you order per item that you want. However, we wanted to save some money and got the lunch special instead.  In a darkly lit room, there was some nice Chinese decor. We sat in the main dining area and were served tea in these very nice, authentic, heavy clay tea kettles. The lunch special included a soup, which …

Restaurant: Viognier

Review of Viognier – San Mateo 222 East 4th Ave, San Mateo, CA 94401 Price: $$$ Reviewed by The Husband. Disclaimer: The views and opinions expressed in this post are solely his. Since I was there for the dining experience, we both take credit for the photos. To finish this week’s restaurant reviews, I will write about Viognier, this amazing restaurant that’s in the middle of San Mateo. However, before I write about this amazing restaurant, let me tell you a story of how we ended up at this place. O attends this amazing pre-school that encourages the parents to have date nights to foster a better family environment. How amazing is that?! One particular Friday, they arranged to watch the kids from 6-10PM at the preschool for $30. This price included not just the staff to watch the kids, but also pizza as well! The kids got to play outside, were fed pizza, got changed into their pajamas and had a sleepover/pizza party with sleeping bags! It was the cutest thing ever and all …

Restaurant: Presidio Social Club

Review of Presidio Social Club – San Francisco 563 Ruger St, San Francisco, CA 94129  Price: $$$ Reviewed by The Husband. Disclaimer: The views and opinions expressed in this post are solely his. He also takes all photo credit.  Today’s review is on Presidio Social Club, a restaurant and bar in Building 563 on Ruger St in the Presidio. Like most buildings in the Presidio, the restaurant takes up the belly of a nice white wooden building that looks like all the other buildings in the presidio. According to their website, “serving up a classic Northern California vibe, attentive hospitality, and a comforting seasonal menu, San Francisco’s iconic Presidio Social Club is open every day for all your social gatherings. Nestled within the beautiful Presidio National Park, PSC is at once an inviting  urban oasis and a lively destination fit for an intimate dinner for two or a celebratory venue for large groups. Erected in 1903 as a military barracks, the historical building has been converted into a modern eatery sure to put anyone “at-ease” …

Restaurant: Muguboka

Review of Muguboka – San Francisco 401 Balboa St, San Francisco, CA 94118 Price: $-$$ Reviewed by The Husband. Disclaimer: The views and opinions expressed in this post are solely his. He also takes all photo credit. When walking inside, it appeared to be a small quaint, family owned store where most of the employees did not speak English. Our server was this very nice middle age’d Korean lady and took our order. They served some free tea and I decided to get the Bul Go Gee and Soft Tofy lunch special. At $15.95 for both dishes, I was able to enjoy “tender beef marinated in special sauce and soft tofu soup.” One day for lunch my co-worker and I decided to grab some Korean food. We decided to go visit Muguboka on Balboa Ave. http://muguboka.com/ Located on Balboa Ave between 5th and 6th Ave in the Inner Richmond, it was definitely within walking distance from where I worked. The dishes came with a variety of small dishes, 13 of them to be exact, ranging from kimchi …

Restaurant: China First

He also takes all photo credit.    Sometimes I forget to bring my lunch to work, and on this one particular day, I had nothing to eat. My boss (the one who was with me when we went to Burma Superstar) also did not bring a lunch. So we decided to go out for lunch together. There is this one Chinese Restaurant that is a staple for us. Located conveniently in the heart of Clement Gai, this Chinese Restaurant has stood the test of time. Many restaurants have come and gone, but China First is still there. For lunch, there is always complimentary pork bone soup. There are a few chinese vegetables and herbs boiled with some beef bones to provide a nice appetizer, which was graciously given to us on the house.  My boss and I decided to eat family style. For …

Restaurant: Bambu

After a good meal with Ramen at Ramen Dojo, my good friend and I decided to take a walk down B street and go to Bambu. http://www.bambusanmateo.com/ Located at 153 S. B Street, this Southeast Asian drink place is in the heart of San Mateo. Bambu is a relatively new establishment, being established in 2008 by 4 sisters in San Jose to try to bring Vietnamese drinks, espressos, etc. to the public.   This particular Bambu that we visited is located in San Mateo. There is nice decor on the walls including photos of Vietname in a very artistic fashion. There is a nice counter with a chalkboard for specials. Behind the counter is a small door into their kitchen, and past the kitchen is the bathroom. Therefore to go to the bathroom, you have to walk past the kitchen.  …

This is a review for Ramen Dojo.  Located at 805 S. B Street in San Mateo, Ramen Dojo has been an establishment of good spicy Ramen in the San Mateo area for at least 5 years. As my wife and O were away for the weekend, I decided to come here with my old high school friend. I’ve never frequented Ramen Dojo before, and the last time he was there was many years ago.     There usually is a very long line with waits up to an hour, but on this particular day, we were seated fairly quickly. Inside there is a small bar area where people can eat facing the bar along with several small tables for people with company.   We decided to start off with a 300ml bottle of premium cold sake for $10.50. Definitely enough …

Neither of us have been there before and we wanted to grab something good to eat for lunch. As you approach Urban Bistro, you can see the sign along the top side of the building with it’s “Soup” Logo. There is an outdoor seating area with some chairs and tables that are symmetrically placed. As you enter the bistro, there is a line with a counter, and all the food is ordered at the counter. The counter extends the length of the dining area with the chefs preparing the food there in the open for people to see. The ingredients all looked very fresh. Review of PPQ Dungeness Island – San Francisco 2332 Clement St San Francisco, CA 94121 Reviewed by The Husband. Disclaimer: The views and opinions expressed in this post are solely his. He also takes all photo credit. Today’s review will be about PPQ Dungeness Island in San Francisco: Located at 2332 Clement St. in San Francisco, PPQ Dungeness Island is known for their crab. I last visited PPQ roughly 5 years ago, well before O was born. I was introduced to the place by my friend, and it was definitely one of the best crab experiences I’ve had. On this recent visit, I was spending some time with my parents, and since my mom has never been there before, we decided to take a visit there. We were definitely not disappointed. For both my parents and myself we ordered 2 peppercorn crabs. Each crab was$49 each and was roughly 2.5 lbs each. When we visited 5 years ago they were $40 each, but I guess they raised the prices recently.  As can be seen from the photos …
